Community LIving - Jewish Nonprofit Supports 45 Adults in a Variety of Living Arrangements

Living the ‘Chai Life’

The Jewish Ledger's journalist, Stacey Dresner, interviewed David Schuster in his Arapahoe Group Home's backyard sukkah, that was erected by the students and teachers of the Teen Leadership and Philanthropy Institute (TLPI). Honorees Bring a Total 90 Years of Employment with JCL

The Jewish Association of Jewish Living Board of Directors honored all its employees at the 2018 Employee Recognition Celebration held on June 7th at the Dunkin Donuts Park.

Denis Geary with a 25-year career of empowering adults with developmental disabilities at JCL was honored with a Henry M. Zachs Spirit of Judaism Award from the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.

JCL residents and adults with developmental disabilities living in the community discuss topics such as wisdom, generosity, compassion, the meaning of friendship and more in a small group setting. The JCL Chai Mitzvah program concentrates on lessons of Jewish learning, ritual, and social action. Join the monthly group!

Celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month — March 2018 — with JCL and an endearing and heartwarming romantic comedy where a family must face their fears and their struggles together with love and compassion. David, an upper-class charmer, leads a very comfortable life until he is forced to come to terms with his own high-functioning autism, despite his resentment towards being singled out as different, or anything other than what he interprets as “normal.”

Nancy Rosen & Sara deBeer Awarded the Henry M. Zachs Spirit of Judaism Award

On June 13, Nancy Rosen and Sara deBeer were recognized by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford for their incredible ongoing service to the JCL Judaic Program.  For the past eight years, Nancy and Sara have worked tirelessly to create fun, innovative Shabbat services and Passover Seders for the men and women of JCL. They have given their time, energy, and thoughtful planning to create meaningful experiences and to bring joy to JCL. JCL is honored to recognize the generosity of volunteers and donors like these two women, and yourself, for your tireless support of the JCL mission and the work we do.

JCL to Open Group Home

JCL is pleased to share the news that we will be opening a new group home on Brewster Road in West Hartford. The last group home we opened was West Normandy in 2001.
